Machining is a creational form of art to stainless steel to create the future.
The world is constantly thrilled with advancements in machining. Automation has accelerated the paths and projects. The CNC tool machining enhanced not only just the productivity but making precision is a trend.
The modern world demands brightness with efficiency, and evidently, we are concerned about our planet too. Stainless steel is the answer. Its demands are booming in several sectors of industries. The automobile, aviation, construction, food processing, textile, etc are few paradigms. The most usual alloy with exceptional properties and its demands is increasing in tools and machining.
Stainless steel holds powerful applications in major industries. It is the amalgamation with a minimum of 12 % chromium and this element creates a passive layer in providing the best of corrosion resistance in adverse mediums. Stainless steel offers exemplary strength, corrosion resistance, formability, and weldability. At extreme temperatures, it shows substantial strength.
Stainless steel is the big classification of grades. The austenitic grades are commercially used machining grades. Grade 320, 303, 304, and 316 are popular machining grades with excellent properties and hardness. Grade 303 exhibits the highest machinability.
Grade 302
Grade 302 is a high carbon variation of grade 304 and offers comparable tensile strength, hence used in machining. It offers excellent corrosion resistance and formability with superior strength at cryogenic temperature. Grade 302 is one of the popular grades for CNC machining.
It is commonly used in the production of cables, spinning, stamping, washers, food, and beverage processing industry, pressure vessel applications, sub-zero applications, etc.
Grade 303
It is the austenitic grade with the finest machinability feature. This upgrades property is due to the sulfur. Sulfurs significantly improve the machinability but cause a slight decrement in corrosion resistance hardness.
Grade 303 is used in extensive machining like nuts, bolts, bushings, shafts, gears, aerospace fittings.
Grade 304
It is the most talented grade of the austenitic family with supreme features. It is widely used in machining tools. Grade 304 shows excellent corrosion resistance, strength, and machinability. The formability and weldability also mark an impression. Grade 304 shows good machinability and can be enhanced with techniques.
304L, a lower carbon variation and prevents carbide formation at the weld. 304H, a high carbon version poses excellent toughness for machining.
It is commonly used in a domestic and commercial kitchen, appliances, food processing plants, chemical plants, springs, nuts, bolts, and screws.
Grade 316
It is a molybdenum-bearing grade with chromium and nickel. It has good machinability. Grade 316 offers superior corrosion resistance than 304 to pitting and crevice in chlorides. It has excellent forming and welding abilities and is widely used in machining.
Other than austenitic grades, 430 F is also used as machining grade. It belongs to ferritic stainless steel with enhanced machinability. Grade 430F is commonly used in the manufacturing of fasteners, gears, shafts, etc.
Stainless steel grades are used in various machining applications such as shafts, engine components, washers, etc.
