Stainless steel is an alloy that contains Nickel, carbon, nitrogen,10.5% chromium, titanium & copper. Stainless steel is classified into five groups namely austenitic, ferritic, martensitic, duplex and precipitation hardening. The applications of stainless steel are numerous. It is used in a variety of industries. In recent years, the consumption pattern of stainless steel has changed a lot. The demand for stainless steel has risen elaborately with the rise of electromechanical, engineering, architectural and automotive industries. Stainless steel finds 80% of its use in the production of kitchenware and durable goods. India is considered as the powerhouse of stainless steel with an annual production capacity of 3 million tons. The production of stainless steel bars started in 1990 in India. Over the years, the production of stainless steel has increased in India. Over the years, the focus of the Indian stainless steel industry has shifted from volume based production to value based production. With the rise of Indian stainless steel industries, the import of stainless steel has been declining in the country. To establish India's thriving stainless steel industry, the government imposed an anti-dumping duty on products imported from China, Malaysia and South Korea. In addition, the government imposed a countervailing duty of 19.95% on imports from China.
